The Captain Flint Outdoor Floor Lamp is an updated version of the iconic freestanding lamp designed by Michael Anastassiades for Flos.  This elegant, dual-purpose floor lamp combines a streamlined form with directional shade and light source, adapting to multiple locations both inside and outdoors. Crafted from waterproof materials the Captain Flint is made to withstand the elements, whilst a contemporary base available in five optional finishes combining a steel tubular structure and conical shade with a marble or lava stone base.

With a concealed system seamlessly connected within the structure, Captain Flint’s diffuser can be rotated up to 8 different positions, allowing for fully customised directional lighting. The light can be angled down for a direct light or pointed against a wall for a smooth ambience halo, with an integrated dimmable functionality.

Available in five finishes, the base in Black, Grey and Occhio di Pernice are crafted from lava stone extracted from quarries on the slopes of the Etna volcano in Sicily. Whilst the Travertino Imperiale marble, is sourced from Tuscany and characterised by small cavities, enhancing the tactile surface aesthetic. The nature of the material makes each base unique.

Michael Anastassiades explains, “I wanted to design a light that had a dual purpose. To be an uplighter illuminating the space with ambient lighting, while at the same time to be rotated and directed down; to become a companion for reading. The notion of balance is prominent in this fixture, a cone resting delicately on its point on a rotating horizontal metal rod. The base is in marble or stone, bringing an element of preciousness, stability and presence.”
